In the AML certification niche, amlcertification.com is cited in the body of the answer of Google AI Overview for several queries in the cluster — from “aml certification” to “best AML certification 2026”. In Perplexity the site is so far only in the source pool (sonar API model), not in the answer body, where ACAMS dominates. Over 16 months Google Search Console recorded 1.6M impressions.

01Context and task
Measuredamlcertification.com is an international AML certification platform for financial crime professionals: compliance officers, AML/KYC analysts and MLROs in banks, financial institutions, fintech and crypto companies, and in government and regulatory bodies. AML/compliance is a YMYL niche: authority is expensive and slow to build, and ACAMS (CAMS) holds the market’s gold standard.
These professionals increasingly work out “which AML certification to choose” or “how to get CAMS” through AI — and get a finished answer rather than a list of links. Task: make AI engines take amlcertification.com as a source for their answers, not merely rank it in classic results.
02Hypothesis
The team’s hypothesisIn a YMYL niche where queries are closed out by AI answers, being inside the AI answer matters more than a classic ranking. A clean AEO structure plus technical access for AI bots can put a site among AI Overview’s top sources even with a middling classic position.
03What we actually did
We rebuilt the site for AI quotability using the AEO/GEO method:
- Answer-first content: a direct answer in the opening sentences, H2s as real questions, Quick Facts and comparison tables of certifications — AI lifts answers from these easily.
- Structured data: Article, Organization/Course and FAQPage JSON-LD — so the machine understands the structure and the facts.
- Access for AI crawlers: through Cloudflare Transform Rules we set correct HTTP headers and opened access to search AI bots (
OAI-SearchBot,PerplexityBot) andGooglebot— without this the page physically can’t reach the answers. - Multilingual setup (WPML): consistent hreflang/canonical across language versions, with no conflicting signals.
- AI visibility monitoring: tracking appearances in AI Overview and citations in ChatGPT/Perplexity across the AML query cluster.
04Evidence
ObservationGoogle AI Overview. For AML queries, amlcertification (AML Certification Centre) is cited in the text of the answer itself in Google AI Overview and appears as a card in the sources panel. Three real screenshots of live results, for three different queries:
Perplexity — still a growth point, not a result. We ran seven cluster queries through the API (the sonarmodel): the site lands in the source poolthe engine pulls, in all seven — including first place for “best AML certification 2026”. But these are retrieved sources, not the answer text. In the Perplexity app itself (the “Best” model) the answer is built around ACAMS/azakaw, while amlcertification shows up in the “Sources” tab, not in the body. So we’re in the sources — not yet in the answer.
| Query | Place in the source pool (API) |
|---|---|
| best AML certification 2026 | #1 |
| AML compliance certification cost | #3 |
| AML certification online course | #6 |
| how to become AML certified | #11 |
| best AML certification for crypto compliance | #15 |
| which AML certification is most recognized | #19 |
| CAMS vs other AML certifications | #20 |
The column shows the site’s place among the sources retrieved by the API (sonar model), not its position in the answer text. The next goal is to get into the app’s answer body, not just the source pool.
05Scale in Google Search Console
Measured · GSCOver 16 months: 8.53K clicks, 1.6M impressions, average position 24,4. Impressions and average position rose noticeably from around August 2025 — that is, visibility widened precisely during the AEO work.
06Limitations
Honest context- The classic position is middling. 24.4 means page 2–3 of Google; the classic CTR is low (0.5%). The strength of this case is in AI search, not in blue links.
- Personalisation. The set of sources in AI Overview and Perplexity changes with region, language and session — these are snapshots, not a constant.
- Attribution. We don’t attribute the whole increase to one factor; it’s the combination of AEO content, technical access for bots, and the domain’s overall trend.
- Different engines, different indexes. Google AIO and Perplexity were checked; ChatGPT and Gemini weren’t measured separately in this snapshot.
07Conclusion
In classic results the site is still on page 2–3, but in Google AI Overview it is already a cited source: AIO takes it into the answer body and surfaces it as a card for several queries in the cluster. Perplexity so far sees it only in the API source pool — that’s the next front. This is what GEO/AEO comes down to: presence inside the AI answer works independently of classic rankings — and in a competitive YMYL niche it delivers visibility where the user is looking today.
Methodology and sources
- Traffic and impressions
- Google Search Console, property amlcertification.com, the last 16 months.
- Google AI Overview
- Live Google results, July 2026 — real screenshots of three queries; amlcertification (AML Certification Centre) in the answer body plus a source card in the panel.
- Perplexity
- API (sonar model), seven queries — we counted presence in the source list, not in the answer body. In the “Best” model the answer is dominated by ACAMS.
- Limitations
- The classic position is middling; the set of AI sources shifts by region and session; the conclusion doesn’t extend to ChatGPT or Gemini.
